British Canoeing Awarding Body welcomes Darren Sherwood to the team

British Canoeing Awarding Body is delighted to welcome Darren Sherwood as an External Verifier to work with Delivery Centres and Assessors in standardisation of both delivery and assessment decisions. As a qualified teacher, Darren has been involved in training and assessment at a variety of levels for over 15 years. Before leaving school-based teaching, Darren was a subject leader for vocational sports and outdoor education.

Darren has been involved in quality assurance throughout his career, initially as a Standards Verifier for Edexcel and as an External Verifier of AS and A Level Physical Education for AQA. In 2012, Darren left teaching to set up his own training company, Channel Training which specialised in providing pathways to employment in the outdoors through apprenticeships and NGBs.

“I am a very active and enthusiastic paddler and an avid supporter of Paddle UK and the direction it has taken in the past few years in particular. This, I feel, is shown in my voluntary roles, previously as area coaching rep for Somerset and more recently on the SUP Technical Panel. I’ve been fortunate to be a National Trainer in several awards, something I find immensely rewarding and consider myself privileged to be able to be part of.

I’m really excited to be joining the quality assurance team for BCAB and I’m looking forward to working with our fantastic Delivery Centres across the UK”.

“I am delighted to have Darren join the team at British Canoeing Awarding Body. Darren has a wealth of knowledge across paddlesport with a keen interest in SUP, of where some of our initial attention will focus.”
