The role aims to engage individuals of all paddling abilities to deliver or support specific sessions on and off the water at Home Nation affiliated clubs and partner organisations.

The nature of sessions or activities will depend on the needs of the club/organisations where the Paddlesport Activity Assistant is based. Examples of activities include:

  • Training sessions
  • Practice sessions
  • Taster sessions
  • Carrying out specific roles during events.

The Paddlesport Activity Assistant role will be specific to a particular session in a controlled environment. This is most likely where sessions are repeated on a regular basis. This could be warm up lead or slalom session timer.

The type of participants that Paddlesport Activity Assistants will work with could include young paddlers, adults, paddlers with disability, beginners of all ages or more experienced paddlers, depending on the needs of the club/partner organisation.

It is suitable for current and new volunteers and no previous experience is required as full training and support will be provided by Paddlesport Activity Assistant Coordinators. The Paddlesport Activity Assistant programme provides a fully developed support pathway towards an Endorsement.

The sessions a Paddlesport Activity Assistant can lead must be within a club/organisation’s Standard Operating Procedures and be fully risk assessed.  If the person is likely to be delivering a range of different sessions, at a range of different venues, it is likely that the Level 1 Paddlesport Instructor or Paddlesport Leader Award will be more appropriate; depending on whether the nature of activity is ‘coaching’ or ‘leading’.
